On Monday I took part in Philosophers at the Cinema, a series of film screenings introduced by a guest speaker with a Q&A afterwards. This season, of which this was the last screening, was devoted to film adaptations of Stephen King novels. After Carrie and The Shining, it was my turn to introduce Misery.
Strange creatures wreaking havoc around a small American town are, of course, nothing new. At least not in horror fiction. Michael Moore offers a refreshing take on a familiar plot with plenty of twists and turns along the way.
“The truth is stranger than fiction” is a somewhat tired cliché. But in case of Susan Faludi’s book In the Darkroom it is the best possible description of its content.
